Key Professional Experience

Dr. Samtani has performed and directed analysis, design and field investigations for a variety of multi-disciplinary urban transportation projects, including highways and bridges in different parts of the country. Dr. Samtani has worked on geotechnical aspects of numerous bridges and retaining walls, several ground improvement projects, and many hundreds of lane miles of flexible and rigid pavements. He has performed forensic engineering as part of investigations for various geotechnical failures and developed remediation measures.

Dr. Samtani is a Certified Instructor for the National Highway Institute (NHI) of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and has taught courses on a variety of geotechnical topics including the course on Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) for Bridge Substructures and Retaining Walls. In addition to co-authoring 8 manuals for the FHWA, he has co-developed and presents a set of webinars for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for implementation of LRFD for geotechnical features. He has helped develop LRFD implementation processes and comprehensive design policies for several agencies with emphasis on interaction between geotechnical and structural specialists.
